Head Varsity Coach / Special Teams Coordinator
Heath Gilbert
This year, Coach Heath Gilbert enters his 15th year of teaching strength
training and health along with coaching football. Coach Gilbert played football and lacrosse for Queen Anne’s
County
High School in Centerville, MD. Coach Gilbert was recently named to the Queen Anne's County
High School hall of fame. He will be inducted in the 2012 class.
He then continued his education and football career
at Shepherd College, now Shepherd University, in Shepherdstown, West Virginia where he started at linebacker
for four years and was a two year team captain. He saw success at Shepherd both individually and as a team. Gilbert finished his career with 37 starts and 5th all-time in solo tackles. As a team Shepherd won two conference titles and was ranked 11th in the nation his senior year.
While at Shepherd, Coach Gilbert played all five
years for Jeff Casteel, now the Defensive Coordinator at Arizona University,
and Monte Cater, the all-time winningest coach in Shepherd University and WVICA history. Coach Gilbert
attributes much of his knowledge and philosophy of the game to both of these successful men.
Once becoming a High School coach he feels fortunate to have learned from two excellent mentors, Mark McHale, whose
last two stops were at Marshall University & Florida State University, and Kevin Anderson, now Shenandoah University Head
Baseball Coach and former NCAA D-1 Baseball Coach of the Year. Coach Gilbert
has taught and coached, ten as head coach, in Warren County Public Schools for his entire career.
He and his wife Tara, a 1995 graduate of Warren County High
School, were married in 2001. The couple has a nine
year old girl, named Peyton and a five year old boy named Andrew and they reside in Warren County.

Defensive Coordinator
Steve Burton
This year, Coach Steve Burton enters his 14th year of teaching math
and coaching football, wrestling, and track. Coach Burton played football, wrestled, and was a thrower on the track
team at Buffalo
Gap High School near Staunton, VA. He then continued his education and
football career at Methodist College, now
Methodist University, in Fayetteville, North Carolina where he was a starting linebacker
for four years and a team captain. Coach Burton began his teaching and coaching careers at Pine
Forest Middle School in Fayetteville. He and his wife, also a teacher, moved to Virginia in 2000. Along with coaching football, he is the middle school wrestling
coach and a track coach, focusing on the throwers. He and his wife live with their twin daughters in Inwood, WV.

Varsity Assistant
Jacob Bates
Coach Jacob Bates enters his 8th year of coaching football and basketball and his first year
of teaching physical education. Originally born in Vermont, Coach Bates moved to Virginia with his mother, sister, and brother
at the age of 6. He played football, basketball, and baseball at nearby Clarke County High School. He then attended the Newport
News Apprentice School, a Division III college in Newport News, Va. He played football there for one season, at the quarterback
position. He then returned to the Winchester area to continue his education at Shenandoah University. At SU he played basketball
for 4 years, being selected as team captain for two years. Coach Bates also coaches basketball at Skyline. He resides in Winchester.

Ben Taylor
Ben Taylor comes to Skyline Football with a total of 11 years of playing and coaching
at the collegiate and professional level. Coach Taylor played college football
for Virginia Tech. During his time with the Hokies, Coach Taylor was a 2-Time
First Team Big East Linebacker as well as a 2-Time All-American and Butkus Finalist. After his time with the Hokies, Taylor
was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 2002 NFL Draft. Taylor spent 5 years
in the NFL playing for the Cleveland Browns (4) and Green Bay Packers. In 2007,
Coach Taylor retired from the NFL and began his coaching career with the Bridgewater College Eagles under Head Coach Mike
Clark. Coach Taylor is a Health/PE teacher at Skyline High School. He is married to April Taylor and has 3 little boys, Benjamin 7, Noah 5, and Elijah is 1.
